Steve Wariner on James
Saturday, 07 August 2010 06:33

Below is an excerpt from an interview Steve Wariner did about his new album.

You say you’re a Telecaster man—what drew you to that guitar?

When I was a kid we used to watch the Ozzie and Harriet Show, and I used to wait for Ricky Nelson to play at the end because James Burton was playin’ with him. I didn’t really know who James Burton was. I’d heard my dad say his name, but I was a kid. I just knew the he was playin’ a Telecaster and makin’ the strings bend, and I wanted to do what he was doin’. I think I just got hooked on it then, and then through the years here comes Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Don Rich and Merle Haggard, and that West Coast Tele stuff. I’ve always just been crazy about Teles. And then I met Albert Lee and heard him play, and those Tele guys just killed me. I went down a few years ago to James Burton’s first annual charity event that he did in Shreveport, I went down and played with him, Eric Johnson and Brad Paisley, Steve Cropper. We all played together and it was so much fun.

Exhibit Honoring Frank Page Set To Open At Municipal Auditorium
Friday, 06 August 2010 07:45

The "Friends of the Municipal" are excited and proud to invite both media and public alike to join them on Friday, August 6 at 10:00 a.m. at the Historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium, for the presentation of the new Museum Display honoring Legendary Louisiana Hayride Announcer Frank Page (also known as: The Man Who Introduced Elvis to the World on Oct. 16th, 1954.

President of the "Friends of the Muni," Larry Porter noted "We are very grateful to Mr. Chester Kelly (former owner of Crescent Landing Catfish Restaurant) for his donation of this beautiful display honoring Mr. Page."

The large four-panel (4'x8' each) laminated boards of some 60 photos depicting Frank's life was originally displayed at Kelly's Restaurant Aug. 28th of 2009. Along with Kelly, Don Razinsky, GM of Ridgways Reprographics and Page's longtime friend and colleague, Tom Pace worked together on this joint project for over three years. Said Pace, "After all this time, Frank is being honored with this Wall of Fame, where it rightly belongs, here at the Municipal Auditorium where Elvis first performed at the Hayride, and Page introduced him."

"It's so exciting to know that the Friends of Municipal Auditorium are going to have Frank Page's career on "Special Display" in the Municipal Auditorium," said Louise Burton, Board member of the "Friends of the Muni.

"According to former Elvis lead guitarist James Burton, "Frank is a very good friend of mine and played a very important part in the success of the Louisiana Hayride. I will be there to wish him well and give him my support." "God Bless You Frank" concluded Burton, a member of the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, as well as an early musician appearing with the Louisiana Hayride Band.

"Both James and Louise Burton will be in attendance, along with SMG VP & G.M. Sam Voisin, and numerous city officials, colleagues and friends of Frank.

The event is free to the public, and cookies and lemonade will be served following the official ceremonies.

Message from James
Wednesday, 23 June 2010 21:43
Calling All Fans:

The James Burton Foundation is happy to announce that through donations from people like you we now have the funds available to acquire the equipment to develop a first-class recording studio in the Foundation office. With this studio we will be providing instruction & training for the children we support with our guitars. Even though we have raised the funds for the equipment, we are still in need of donations for construction of the studio.

We graciously accept all contributions and welcome a donation in memory of someone or on someone’s behalf.

The James Burton Foundation donates guitars to music programs in various schools throughout the United States. We also donate to children’s hospitals, children in the foster care system, abused and neglected children, and to Veterans’ hospitals. In the future, we hope to expand out program to be able to provide services for other children in need.

Music is a vital part of any child’s life and can be a catalyst to a healthy, positive and productive adult life. This recording studio is just a small part of what the James Burton Foundation has and will continue to offer to children.

You can make your donations through my cause right here on Facebook with this link http://www.causes.com/causes/179203 or you can mail in a donation to the James Burton Foundation , 714 Elvis Presley Avenue, Shreveport Louisiana 71101. Thank you for your kindness and if you have any questions, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We cannot do this without your support.

God Bless You,

James Burton
