James honored for his efforts to bring music to children
Two Grammy Award Winners and One of the World’s Most Acclaimed Guitarists in Concert Saturday Night, October 15th, Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas An Evening of Musical Celebration with James Burton, Billy Swan & Doyle Dykes to Benefit Local Charity 3rd October 2011 – James Burton, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and legendary guitarist for Elvis Presley and Ricky Nelson, will be honored for his efforts to bring music to children at St. Jude’s Hospital, schools, the underprivileged and veterans at “Matters of the Heart” Gala & Golf fundraiser for Pathways Core Training. Held at the Four Seasons Las Colinas on October 14th and 15th, entertainment for the gala will be world-renowned fingerpicking guitarist, Doyle Dykes, along with a special guest appearance by Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Billy Swan.

James Burton Foundation donated guitars
The Foundation recently shipped guitars to rural Georgia in response to a support request. Your donations made this possible. Randy Young, at Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville GA, teaches a media production course that includes music recording and engineering. While support is adequate for some parts of the program, he lacked instruments so he contacted the Foundation. Because Thomas County School serves a rural area, and many students come from poverty-stricken homes, Randy opens the studio doors to the community, area churches and their praise bands, many of which feature the high school students as musicians. Randy will use the new guitars in his course, and allow the students to use them as needed outside the school. James Burton to perform at Jazz Fest; hand out guitars
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and multiple Grammy winner James Burton will make a special appearance at the Natchitoches Jazz/R&B Festival this weekend to present free guitars to the Natchitoches chapter of the Boys & Girls Club of El Camino Real. He’ll also perform. Burton learned to play the guitar and to love music at age 13, and got his start as a teenager playing on the Louisiana Hayride. Throughout his career he was worked with legends such John Denver, Frank Sinatra, Keith Richards, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, and Brad Paisley, to name but a few, but he is most known for his role as lead guitarist for Elvis Presley. Burton will perform live Saturday as part of the Natchitoches Jazz/R&B Festival line-up with long-time friends Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs.

Foundation donates guitars
From KTBS.com: Students at a Shreveport school are singing a local musician’s praises this morning. Guitar legend James Burton made a special donation to the students at Linwood Public Charter School, giving them 24 brand new guitars.This will help the students learn how to play the instrument. The principal hopes it will further their interest in music when they practice during school music classes.Burton is a musician known around the world, who’s played with music greats like Ron Nelson and Frank Sinatra.To date, Burton has given more then 2,000 guitars to area schools. It was a dream that was more than a year in the making. The James Burton Studio opened today in downtown Shreveport. The facility bears the name of the great guitarist who played alongside the likes of Elvis Presley, John Denver and many others. Hundreds of people turned out for the ribbon cutting ceremony. The event included performances by the music class from A.C. Steere Elementary School and other local bands. The facility is state of the art and allows anybody who wants to come through to record their music.
