ACCLAIMED guitarist James Burton is returning to Wirral by popular demand. Born in Louisiana in 1939, Burton has been called the guitarist’s guitarist and he’s played with the biggest names of all – from Jerry Lee to Ricky Nelson to the one and only Elvis Presley, as part of the TCB band. He is playing at the Floral Pavilion next week as part of Wirral’s International Guitar Festival of Great Britain after a sell-out performance in 2009. Burton will be joined on Saturday, November 20 by the cream of local musicians, including Chris Clayton, Mike Byrne, Don Woods, Susan Hedges, Owen Clayton, Brian ‘Saxophone’ Jones, Al Willard Peterson, Mike White, Terry McCusker, Dave Dover and The Passionettes. The cast will consist of James Burton, Chris Clayton, Mike Byrne, Don Woods, Susan Hedges, Owen Clayton, Brian ‘Saxaphone’ Jones, Al Willard Peterson, Mike White, Terry McCusker, Dave Dover, The Passionettes, Pauline Daniels  female comedian will be doing a 20min spot. The music will cover Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Jerry Lee Lewis. Roy Orbison, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris the whole evening is to be held together by Frankie Connor (BBC Radio Merseyside). Albert Lee on capturing the James Burton sound

The October issue of Vintage Guitar includes a piece on guitar legend Albert Lee by Dan Forte called “Albert Lee: The Gypsy Spirit of a Country-Guitar Hero.” The interview is loaded with gems from Lee, like this one about how he developed his guitar style below. After listing off Buddy Holly, Scotty Moore, Cliff Gallup and a few others, Lee says, “Of course, I have to go back to James Burton.
